Teton Village, WY – The Teton Village Association Improvement and Service District will receive $945,179 in funding to buy four zero-emission battery-electric buses and charging equipment to replace diesel buses that serve nearly half a million people in and around Teton Village. This low and no emission grant was funded by President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, with 130 awards totaling nearly $1.7 billion for transit projects in 46 states and territories. It invests in more than 1,700 American-built buses that will be manufactured with American parts and labor. The application by Teton Village Association was sponsored by the Wyoming Department of Transportation, who will provide grant oversight.

The new buses will improve service and reliability and reduce maintenance costs to transport visitors and employees from the Ranch parking lot to the base of the Tram in Teton Village. Teton Village Association will fund the 20% local match, $166,796, from capital project funds supported by the Teton Village Resort District. With this purchase, TVA launches our goal to transition our bus fleet to 100% electric by 2030.

“Reduced transit emissions will protect air quality here at the southern gateway to Grand Teton National Park, a Class 1 airshed,” says Melissa Turley, Executive Director of the Teton Village Association, “and serve as a model for the hundreds of thousands of guests we welcome to Teton Village from around the world every year.” For more than 20 years, Teton Village Association Improvement and Service District has worked to mitigate traffic on WY390 by offering free and frequent public transit and free parking for carpools in the Ranch parking lot. Keeping WY390 two lanes is good for the environment, wildlife, and our neighbors.

Teton Village Association Improvement and Service District plans to order four Lightning ZEV4 buses, four level two chargers and one DC fast charger from Lightning eMotors. The new electric buses will be introduced in fall of 2024, to replace high mileage internal combustion engine buses.
